I have an Inspiron 1501 that I've installed 64bit Windows 7 on.
It's running beautifully, but I am stuck trying to update the BIOS.
We highly recommend the driver installer for all Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users.
If you don't know how to start in 'Safe Mode', all you have to do is start up your computer and repeatedly hit the f8 button till it gives you the option to start in 'Safe Mode'I hope this helps Go to control panel, click on security center, go to automatic updates then change your preferences to notify me but don't automatically download or install them, which you should do anyways since you don't want all the downloads....unless you just really like SP3 or IE8 lol. It will not download or update unless you tell it to and which ones to update.
You can download the recommended Bios driver updates by clicking the "Download" button.
Important: If you are using Firefox or Netscape as your browser, you will be directed to save the application "to disk" (we recommend that you save the application to your desktop).
Dell only provides the Windows BIOS flash utility and when I try to run that I get the Error Code: 1275 which I've narrowed down to being an issue with 32 vs. I've tried using my USB DOS boot drive but the BIOS utility complains that it will not run in DOS.
I'm running the flash utility as an administrator and I've tried all of the compatibility settings.
